carillon
& the fountain

In 2016, the water supply company GIWK (Gdańsk Water and Sewage Infrastructure Company, www.giwk.pl) – the manager and owner of the Hevelius Fountain till 2024 – organised a composer competition “To the Fountain this Bell Tolls”. Participants’ task was to compose music for the carillon of StCatherine’s Church and electronics synchronised with the 12-minute special program of the Hevelius Fountain. The first prize was awarded to Kamil Cieślik for his piece “Jan Hevelius Fountain Stories”.

The second prize was awarded to Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz for the piece ”Nihil Constat”. Beniamin Baczewski’s „Liquid Matter” and Jakub Nikiel’s „Echoes of Gdańsk” received the third prize ex aequo.

The shows took place in summer seasons 2016–2023 and 2025. In 2024 manager of the Fountain was changed to Gdańskie Wody.
