He studied at both the Mechelen carillon school (Belgium) and the Amersfoort carillon school (The Netherlands). Among the carillon contests that he won, are the Queen Fabiola Contest (1993) and, together with Gildas Delaporte, the International Duet Carillon contest at Douai (France) in 1994.

He is a frequent concert recitalist and presents lectures and courses in campanology. As a campanologist Gideon Bodden designs bell profiles using classic geometrical proportions and he tunes carillon bells. Currently he is working with bellfoundries in Slovakia, Spain, Italy and Germany. He also conducts restorations of carillons and historic automatic carillon playing devices. Carillons and peals of swinging bells with bells that he designed can be heard in The Netherlands, Belgium, England, Schotland, Germany, Hungary, Russia, Australia, Switzerland and Slovakia.

From 2009 to 2012 Gideon Bodden served as president of the Dutch Carillon Society.
